Drink lots of water or liquids the first few days to help flush out nicotine and other toxins from your body. Try substituting with apples, carrots, celery, cinnamon sticks, grapefruits, lollipops, pickles, raisins, sugar free gum or sunflower seeds. Try to avoid triggers like alcohol, coffee and sugar for as long as you can since they may increase your urge for a cigarette. Instead of times when you may want a cigarette, try a cup of mint tea. Relaxing such as 10 deep breaths slowly while thinking of something else enjoyable or try yoga. If holding a cigarette in your hand or having it in your mouth is something you miss, try substituting with a plastic straw.
Try avoiding environments where you're around smoking. I helped support a friend while she stopped smoking who had small children. Place their pictures in areas where you would've smoked. Seeing them will help remind you of one of the best reasons to stop smoking. You want to be there to watch them grow up, share the important moments of their lives with them and most important...... be there for them when they need you. If you really are sincere in wanting to stop smoking, I have no doubt you can
do it. It won't be easy but will be well worth it. One last thing, if you have
any loved ones or friends, please let them know, so they'll know what to expect
when you're a bit grumpy and they'll be ready to give you lots of support. You
don't have to do this by yourself. 2003 - 2008
